Got Hair Loss Issues? – Use Finasteride

Male pattern baldness is a common issue that many men have in common. The main cause of this issue – the thinning of hair brought about by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This condition of hair thinning, if not intervened with proper treatment, can progress into total baldness. The thinning of hair may not really sound much, but the truth is this is just the start of the process. The hair follicle gets thin due to the presence of DHT, allowing it to produce only thin strands of hair. However, once the thinning progresses, that hair follicle will become too constricted for it to still manage to produce hair. The best way to solve hair loss issues brought about by pattern baldness will be to solve the thinning out of hair follicles and this can be done by dealing with DHT itself or how it is formed.

The use of finasteride is the best way to deal with hair loss issues these days. Finasteride is effective because it deals with the root cause of hair loss which is the hormone DHT. By preventing the conversion of testosterone to DHT, you therefore reduce DHT levels to a point that it no longer can cause thinning of the hair follicles. This in essence can stop the progression of hair loss brought about by male pattern baldness.

There are actually only two drugs that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in terms of treatments for hair loss, particularly androgenic alopecia, and they are finasteride and minoxidil. Using both medications in tandem is more beneficial though as finasteride basically stops the progression of hair loss while minoxidil promotes the growth of new hair. The combination of the two in essence allows you to grow a fuller hair much faster than just using one.

Finasteride is actually the generic name of two brands, Proscar and Propecia. In the beginning, finasteride was intended as a cure for abnormal prostate enlargement. However, a certain side effect of the drug showed that at lower dosage, it could also be used for treating male pattern baldness. The manufacturer did then some clinical testing to further prove the effectiveness of finasteride 1mg as a treatment for male pattern baldness. It was then resolved that all it takes is 1mg of the original drug to treat hair loss. Proscar which comes in 5mg dosage is meant for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Propecia on the other hand comes only in 1mg dosage and is meant for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. This just goes to show that not all drug side effects are nasty.

When using finasteride, always make sure that you do not abuse the medication by taking more of what has been prescribed to you by your doctor. This is because this drug was intentionally made for curing enlarged prostates, but at higher dosage. If you unwittingly raise your dose by being all excited in stopping your hair loss and perhaps growing your hair back that you take more than what you should, then you may potentially be creating more damage as opposed to cure.
